Contemporary Relevance (Isbah Masood)
Turin’s
destruction was because of his stupidity/foolish actions. He got a
little too carried away with his pride and power. Turin was happy and
was over confident regarding his battle with Morgoth, turin had
planned it all out and had his military prepared early but had them
launched too early which lead to the destruction of his own military.
Turin believed he was confident at the fact that since he was in
power, he thought that his military would be able to beat Morgoths
even though Morgoths military was larger and evil. Turin might have
had the chance to win the battle but his pride and over confidence
allowed him to get carried away which then led to his destruction.
Turin`s destruction also took place when Finduilas was captured by
Gwindor in Nargothrond, and Turin’s over confidence and pride once
again caused for him to be so late which led to Finduilas death.
Since Turin was the last man standing, he challenged the dragon and
Glaurung, and after stabbing Glaurung in the eye, Turin’s pride
made him challenge Glaurung into a death stare and as he looked into
the dragon eyes, he got hypnotized and that’s when Glaurung gave
him a vision of his mother Morwen and his sister Neinor. The visions
mislead Turin and made him believe that his mother and sister were
being tortured and were at King Thingol's castle when they werent.
These foolish acts of Turin that lead to destruction can be related
to our society today. A lot of the times, when we either get too
satisfied and over confident over an event or act, we tend to start
focusing on the confidence but we don’t think about what could be
the outcome and the risks of the act. Turin lost his battle against
Morgoth even though he may have won but because of his over
confidence and pride, the battle led to his destruction. We see this
in our society today because when we happen to get a job, our pride
makes us so happy and cocky that we become blinded thinking of the
wealth and that’s when we collapse. Turin’s over confidence and
pride made him do the challenge which lead him to get hypnotized and
mislead by Glaurung. We see this in our society today because when we
are confident about a certain thing, we tend to get really arrogant
and that can misguide us, arrogance leads us into our own downfall.
It was good that Turin was preparing his military against Morgoth,
however he made a foolish mistake by having overconfidence and
launching his military too early which lead to the destruction of his
own military. We can use Turin’s case in our society because it’s
always good to plan and organize things out early but nevertheless,
we shouldn`t foolishly make our decisions quickly in the act of
overconfidence and arrogance.
